Ideas
The above is an experience everyone has had. However it happens, that new ideas can arrive into our consciousness is a fantastic element of being human.
But sometimes ideas come to us that are not so great. And what do we do when this happens? We recognize them as terrible and move on. We do this because we’re smart enough to know that following through on every idea that comes to mind is a recipe for insanity.
Bad ideas may service a purpose. Perhaps its just the process of eventually arriving at good ideas. Or maybe our subconscious minds don’t have a filter, they just produce ideas, and its up to our conscious minds to decipher their worth. What’s important to recognize it that this notion isn’t limited to ideas, its true about all our thoughts.
The Thought Process
Every single thought pops into your mind like any other idea. For it to be otherwise, you would have to think a thought before you think it.
Of course, some thoughts are the result of prior thoughts. If you choose to brainstorm about pets, no one is surprised when your next several thoughts are about cats, dogs, or rabbits. But the thought that led you to brainstorm about pets was itself a thought that popped into your mind, one that you chose to follow.
To grasp the meaning of this, imagine if had it occurred to you to brainstorm about ways to cook pets, Things would have been drastically different, because you likely would have dismissed the notion immediately. With a bit of introspection, you realize this is how every thought process occurs.
What’s most important to recognize is:
1 – Every thought you have is something that merely popped into your consciousness.
2 – You are not bound to any thoughts since they are not physical realities.
3 – You can dismiss bad thoughts just like you can dismiss bad ideas.
4 – The quality of your life is determined by how you respond to thoughts.

3 – You can dismiss bad thoughts just like you can dismiss bad ideas.
4 – The quality of your life is determined by how you respond to thoughts.
Defeating Bad Moods
Dismissing counterproductive thoughts takes practice. No one is exempt from the occasional bad mood. Treat these periods like making a miscalculation. Even if you’re great at math, sometimes you get it wrong. It happens. So what.
Our bodies and brains are running 24/7 doing an incredible amount of things, they don’t have to be perfect. A bad mood every now only means that you’re just like everyone else. You can move on from bad moods quickly if you lean to accept that you’re not beholden to every thought that enters your mind.
Recognizing this will be one of the greatest moments of your life. You can choose not to let the bad, dumb, irritable, and flat out depressing thoughts be anything more than just easily dismissed bad ideas. You can discard these thoughts the moment they arrive.
Thoughts are not concrete. Think of bad thoughts the way you think about junk mail. You don’t always know why you get them, but there’s no need to ever let them interfere with what is important to you.
Grasping this will make you instantly happier.
